Muar is filled with cafes and one of the recommendation would be 1998 cafe.
At the road of Jalan Dato Haji Hassan, it used to have a non eye-spotting house, but through some renovation, it has became his own 1998 cafe style.
The concept of the cafe is about simple spring concept. Simple signboard, matching with color of black and white, makes people even curious what's inside the cafe. Mostly the furnitures and decorations are mainly made by wood.
Once you enter the door you can see a pure white wall that makes from brick. Obviously white color is the main color for this coffee house. This wall successfully makes the environment have a hearth-warming feeling. The aren't a lot of tables and chairs there, roughly around 10 tables nicely arranged in that cafe. The owner of the cafe has carefully arranged and furnished each of the every corner of the shop with old toys and appliances. The wall has simple photos, portait, posters and clip arts which is similar to Zakka's decoration, where everywhere is a surprise. According to the boss, he actually has business with Zakka. During the interview, we found out that the name 1988 is actually the birth year of the owner, the name actually represents the boss.
They used the coffee bean called Illycaffe for their coffee series. The normal coffee such as double espresso, flat white, and latte are available here. Those who doesn't like drink coffee, you can try their non-caffeinne drinks such as Lemonade Crush, Lychee rose, flavored tea and also Ice Blended Australian Yogurt - Carmelized Apple flavor. They have a special barista, the one who brew the coffee is actually and uncle. According to him, he used to be a motorcycle mechanic. Just by looking him doing the coffee art, is really detailed.
Other than coffee, they have food too, mostly are Italian based food, but they also have Japanese cuisine, such as Japanese curry rice. They too have creme brulee and super molen cake, which both are worth to try. In the counter they also have fresh fruit juice and fruit jam from French! The cullinaries are made by wood, you can collect them to be part of your collection.
The decoration from inside out and the menu there is prepared wholeheartedly by the owner, you already know this is a cafe that has style!
