New Eastern Restaurant develop since 1936, is one of the Muar's old shop. A lot of Muar's citizen has grown up with it and also they say that a lot of family was formed becasue of it. They have hid a lot of romance story behind it. The lady boss said that, decades ago this place was a matchmaking place because this place was a high ended restaurant and not many places can eat western food, so to have a romantic candlelight dinner would be this place.
The moment when you step into this restaurant, it feels like you have stepped into a time travel machine back to the past. The furnitures and decorations here are from last time, never changed and it gives you the feel of antique British times. On the wall is filled with their signboard and the posters from the 70s. The furniture has never changed, they still used those wooden tables and chairs, they still have the hanger to put the hats in the VIP room. According to them, they say a a lot of governors used to came here after work.
The lady boss has a very nice hobby, she puts all kind of shapes and kinds of Coke in one corner of the shop. She has been collecting all these for about 30 years, is from the help of her friends and relatives travelling around the world and get it from her. Bit by bit, it has already accumulate into mountain of coke.
What's famous here is their Hainanese Chicken Chop, it has kept the taste from before. The tendon has been removed before cooked, so the chicken meat will not be rough. You can sense the garlic scent when you eat it. Other than the chicken chop, tey also have Hainanese fish & chips, fried rice, Hainanese noodle and also Sambal prawn, fried sotong and spiced chicken, and all of these is their signature traditional dishes. Another recommendation would be citrus juice, it so fresh till you still can drink the pulp.
It's rather rare to have such a nice environment and a very nice background behind it.
