Although the owner from Parit Jawa is young at age but he is impressively experienced and skilled. He is very familiar with fish, thus making his cooking twice the result with half the effort.

Quan Wei Asam Fish have only been operating for almost 5 years, yet many customers would always come back if they ever crave for fresh seafood. His signature asam fish does not seem to have many ingredients in it, but the preparations are not simple at all, especially when it comes to the sauce. In order to allow customers to be able to taste the freshness of his seafood, the owner seasons his food lightly. Then again, opinions may vary. There are some customers who think that the dish is not sour or spicy enough, but it is because of this, people are only able to taste its freshness.

After some research, we learned that there are actually two versions of asam fish. The first is the Malay version which tends to be spicier. Whilst the second version is Chinese, which tends to be sour. The owner persists in using local seafood, although the price is higher but its quality is guaranteed. He states that it is because Muar River is rich in mud, thus the fish in the river tend to be sweeter.

They also have another dish called the “Fried Dragon Tongue Fish”. It is crispy and does not taste oily at all. Additional flavouring is not needed in this dish, yet it is able to capture the hearts of customers, making it a popular dish. The grilled sotong is also another recommended dish here. The difference is that it only has a light barbecued taste to it compared to the usual ones.

And finally, it is also recommended to have some starfruits, it helps to refresh oneself especially right after a sour and spicy meal. Yet, not everyone might get a chance to order them as it is based on the starfruit seasons. So grab the chance while you can!

Fundamentally, the owner promotes freshness here. His cooking is neither too salty nor too oily, keeping his dishes healthy.
